Customs Clerk

ECS Recruitment is currently hiring a Customs Clerk for our client based on the Greenogue Business Park.

Position Overview:
The Customs Clerk plays a vital role in facilitating the import and export of goods by ensuring compliance with customs regulations and documentation requirements. They work closely with customs officials, shipping companies, and clients to ensure smooth and timely customs clearance processes.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Documentation Preparation: Prepare and review shipping documents, including invoices, bills of lading, and customs declarations, to ensure accuracy and compliance with customs regulations.
  • Customs Clearance: Coordinate with customs officials to obtain clearance for incoming and outgoing shipments. Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and certificates are obtained and filed correctly.
  • Communication: Serve as a point of contact for clients, carriers, and customs authorities to address any inquiries or issues related to customs clearance processes.
  • Duty Calculation: Calculate and verify duties, taxes, and other fees associated with imported goods, ensuring accurate payment and compliance with regulations.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain organized records of all customs-related documentation and transactions, including electronic records in customs clearance systems.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on changes to customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements to ensure ongoing compliance and adherence to best practices.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in customs procedures or logistics preferred.
  • Previous experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding, or related field is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications and customs clearance software.

Working Conditions:
The role of a Customs Clerk typically involves working in an office environment, often in close proximity to shipping and receiving areas. Depending on the organization, occasional overtime or weekend work may be required to accommodate shipping schedules or urgent clearance needs
